to the people who have never seen this film, to put it in quick context: i tend to class it as the third film in the shane black trilogy, alongside the greats that are kiss kiss bang bang and the nice guys. it shares basically all the same tropes you most likely know and love from them, but is set in the 90s instead. and i’ve always wondered why the last boy scout is often overlooked when it’s arguably just as memorable.
anyway, i would be happy with anything here as there isn’t a single fic for this film. this could be anything set during the film, a canon divergence, or something set after the film that explores their new private detective partnership, and a world where the hallenbeck family do indeed keep jimmy dix.

Spoilers for Series 3
i’ve only seen the show so far, and just finished watching the new series. my main takeaway is that i very much enjoy seeing river bruised and beaten while he attempts to do spy things to varying degrees of success. watching duffy and hobbs pursue river through the park was endlessly entertaining to me, especially the beating afterwards, because jack lowden hot. so, what can i say, maybe give me more of this…
anything involving the truly unhinged duffy at the end there being paired with the trapped, possibly concussed, river being hunted around those underground tunnels.
i’m also fascinated by hobbs’ comment of wanting the recording of river so he can wank over it later. just an insane thing to say to another man. maybe this could be explored further.
i was also pretty disappointed that river had nothing to do with the eventual demise of both duffy and hobbs. i feel like maybe river earned a little moment of comeuppance, so maybe some kind of canon-divergence thing that changes this.

jade/jim - i’m thinking about what’s going to happen in s3 with jim now that tabitha is suddenly gone. maybe they take comfort in each other, or maybe they double down on being the weird tech/construction duo and try to come up with wilder ways of getting out.
jade/tabitha - love the mystery solving team jade forms with tabitha, the shared visions with the children, conversations had in kitchens overnight. i'd just be happy with getting more.
jade/jim/tabitha - what better way to fix a troubled marriage than bonding over a shared annoyance of being attracted to this horrible, rich asshole who is weirdly charming and keeps forcing his company onto them both? because, come on, from season 2, they are all living under the same cramped roof. maybe the best way to get jade to chill out is for them both to just wreck him, giving him that firm hand jade so clearly needs.
boyd/khatri - i like their moral/religious rhetoric and khatri being boyd's kind of mean jiminy cricket guide. i'd be happy with any conversations between them, both alive and dead.
jade & victor & ethan - as for the platonic ships, i just love the blunt and honest way he speaks to them both. maybe jade takes a crack at piecing together victor’s drawings, or he gets ethan to explain the cromenockle to him, in the belief that it relates to their situation?

anything set during the opening, how did mal’s projection get saito to trust her so quickly, what if things went differently. OR, what if mal’s projection went with cobb to rescue saito from limbo, all three of them ending up back in that room from the opening.

anything post film that incorporates sam being alive, the friction that might create, the history between him and sully, how it might throw off the new balance, maybe it leads to fear of abandonment and being replaced.

the corruption of goodness, mostly for vincent but arguably for them all | accidentally creating a monster that turns on you | eddie and carmen using vincent’s naivety and softer heart against him | how they manipulate him together, you make him feel good, i teach him how to run | eddie and carmen referring to themselves as professionals | the older/younger dynamic | the mentor/protege relationship, and how the film lampoons the idea of it being a father/son dynamic | eddie allowing vincent to get hurt to teach him a lesson, but then fixing him up with gentle kid gloves | the unavoidable phallic nature of eddie giving vincent the pool cue | the eventual betrayal and jealousy | the way vincent and carmen keep pushing eddie, like letting him into their room while they’re showering and getting dressed, contrasted with the moments where we see them hanging out, watching tv together, just being happy in each other’s company | the odd kindness they show him sometimes, like when eddie eventually gets conned himself

anything set during their time on the road. maybe to save money they share a hotel room, making a perfect opportunity for a ‘only one bed’ scenario, vincent and carmen having to coax eddie into the bed with them because an old man like him shouldn’t be sleeping in a chair. stopping at diners, driving late into the night, deep conversations, falling asleep on people, fooling around in the back seat and the voyeurism of the third person pretending not to watch.
eddie and vincent teaching carmen how to play pool. maybe they’re the last ones left at a pool hall late at night. and their natural one-upmanship takes over.
anything post film where they keep running into each other. tripping up each other’s plans and grifts on purpose.
